Sterile Supply Processing Course

Sterile Supply Processing CourseThe future of education sterile processing: Online Training for technicians sterilization

Currently, the sterile processing professional is one of the most underestimated and under-paid technicians in the clinical context of modern health care. This is a sad state of affairs if one considers the important role of sterile processing technician at the hospital and surgery center setting. Literally, no direct patient care providing medical center can not function without them!

It is unlikely that hospital administrators will come to an epiphany of their own in respect of the profession in their respective schools, and seek to reach down and help raise the service and treatment of infertility, thereafter, its technicians. It is, in almost any business, futile (not to mention lazy and irresponsible) to sit around hoping that things improve. Sometimes we take the initiative ourselves.

In central sterile processing, organization, IAHCSMM was at the top of this for many years. And another group efforts are ongoing and independent organizations such as the Central Sterile Processing Initiative . But a more concentrated effort is now needed if we want to move forward in the profession. If what we have done for years does not give us the results we both want and need, then it is clearly time to step back and evaluate.

It is an affirmation of the Initiative sterilization center that there are several areas where we should, as a profession, certification is required to bring this not the biggest obstacle and should not our goal ultimate. We can aim even higher than this noble enterprise. For more information on these areas and our ideas, please visit the Treatment Centre Initiative sterile site.

But the discussion at hand, we are interested in one subject, education. Before the sterile processing professionals can be lifted, it must be worthy of such elevation. It is time we stopped treating sterile processing any support services area such as starting the diet and environment to focus on clinical aspects and techniques of the other domain. This implies a much more educated technician.

The opinion of the Central Sterile Processing Education Initiative does not focus simply on plans for self-learning, short courses and seminars, and then, finally, pass a certification exam. Instead, we offer what the education of a sterile processing technician shall not be less stringent than any other program technical / clinical associate rank. The reasons for this should be obvious (the complex understanding of microbiology, chemistry and physics requirements, prevention of infection control, patient safety, etc.)

We know it will not come quickly or even easy, but it is a goal we should be focused on. Certification should be the second such a change of educational paradigm.

The above being said, we are not opposed to certification, on the contrary! Today, professional certification is the highest level possible for the sterile processing professional and is a MUST. We recommend both through certification and CBSPD IAHCSMM to all our students and require that our affiliated instructors.

How can we begin to implement the changes recommended above in our professional arena?

First, take a look at the current situation of education. Today, the only real educational options for educational progression sterile processing are: 1) self-study, 2) the occasional seminar / training session, 3) tutoring.
