Sperry Symposium

Posted on July 16, 2010.
Sperry SymposiumLDS - Is not it the Church's position on evolution clear enough?

I have read and heard a few times (quite often) I think that Mormons are confused. Or maybe I'm the one who is confused? I thought some clarification ... So in both cases, I either want to educate or be educated, if the comments please!

My understanding of official sources doctrine of the Church (Boyd K. Packer): "Only the reference books and written statements under assignment from the First Presidency and Council of the Twelve Apostles are regarded as official statements of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Saints. "

From what I understand there there are 3 main sources (Church Doctrine) on the creation of man --- 1. Mormon View of Evolution - Heber J. Grant, 1925 2. Encyclopedia of Mormonism, 1992 3. The origin of man - Joseph F. Smith (1st Pres.), 1909

from "The Origin of Man," Ensign, Feb 2002, 26
"God created man in His image" (Genesis 1:27) ...
"God created man in His own image, the image of God he created him, male and female he created them." In simple words, and stressed the inspired author of the book of Genesis made known to the
world the truth about the origin of the human family ....
"God created man in His image." It is equally true of the mind because it is the body ...

-------------------------------------- ...
There are also some quotes from church leaders as well (not nec. Data as doctrine, but that seems to correspond to the doctrine of the same thing) Ex:

Joseph Fielding Smith, the signs of the times, p22-23 - Things started off good and Fell (The Fall). Now, says the Lord, when he had finished the work, he pronounces "very good". Well, if everything was very good - and can you imagine the Lord to create something that was not good? What in the world are you going to do with the theories of men who place the world millions of years in a state of turmoil, death, change, conflict, what will you do about it? I ask this question.

(He quotes Genesis 1:31 And God saw everything that he had made and behold it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.)

and there was an important meeting, because at BYU Sperry Symposium by Boyd K. Packer called "The Law and the Light"
The purpose of this conversation was to dispel the false doctrine that was common at that time:
[This was first slime / big bang / amino acids that evolved in fish amphibian animals / monkeys to man and then man was placed in the garden of Eden.] His speech was to clarify this is not the way man is born.
He gave six reasons:
1. The revelations of God. The revelations show the separate creation of man in God's image is after the rest of creation was finished.
2. A good understanding of the sealing authority. The sealing authority with its binding of generations in the family can not accept eternal ancestral lines to beasts. I repeat: Understanding the sealing authority with its binding generations in families can not accept eternal ancestral lines to beasts. That should be reason enough for all gifted and sealed Latter-day Saints!
3. Declarations of prophets and apostles. When the First Presidency speaks, we can safely accept their word. Twice the First Presidency has declared that the Church's position on organic evolution. The first, a statement published in 1909 entitled "The origin of man" (75-81), was signed by Presidents Joseph F. Smith, John R. Winder, and Anthon H. Lund. The other, entitled "See the Mormon" of evolution ", signed by Presidents Heber J. Grant, Anthony W. Ivins, and Charles W. Nibley, was published in 1929 (1090-1091). It closely follows the first statement, in fact quotes directly from him. The doctrines of both.
