Checklist good to change your name after marriage? Hello - can anyone recommend a good list for how to change your name with various government, legal, educational and other documents.
I met a woman at Social Security office who said she needed a new card to obtain a new license drivers, etc.
So go get your SS card first, then a driver's license, then all the other places (and car insurance, home mortgages, student loans, and banks would be good starting points, followed by smaller places like schools, a cell phone in the workplace, society, etc.)
Good luck and best wishes!
If you go http://www.theknot.com they have a name change kit. The most I think it costs about $ 25, but for me its cheaper to just make a list of what bills I have my maiden name, my license card, passport card security social, informing your work or school, etc., if not all of them, need your home or at least a copy of your marriage license.
It depends on the state - some places need your original license, some are copies OK. Usually, you start with your passport (original license) and the DMV. A discussion here:

I changed my driver's license first. I need my marriage certificate to do so. Then I made my passport, (Honeymoon), then the social security card.
