Changing Your Name Uk

Posted on August 2, 2010.
Changing Your Name UkChange your name in the United Kingdom, How did you do?

I would like to hear specifically from people who have changed their name or the name if it's the same procedure. What is the procedure that you used officially change it, whats the problems have been or have found? I found some sites on the Web that offer a service unilateral act, but some extra 15 pounds and 40 pounds more, are they the same or what is the difference? Do you recommend the site that you used? I end up like to legally change my passport and bank account name etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

The best thing to do for you is to go to your local registry office! These are the people who deliver all documents and will be able to say what are the legal documents and you will not be able to use the name of your new chosen!
Try to avoid using sites that offer this service because they are often unreliable, and all you really is a "certificate name in common usage" that can not be used on legal documents (passport, license, etc.)
Good luck!

Go to the local registry office and just change your name

do so through a lawyer .. I had a change of name deed I would not venture to do online

You change your name by deedpoll http://www.deedpoll.org.uk/

You can change your name easily without unilateral act. You may call yourself as you want, as someone who needs your real contact information is given to them reasonably.

If you want a change of name act, you see a lawyer and sign a declaration to abandon your old name and is signed by a judge. You can use the name on the passport, driving license etc, but you can not change what is on your birth certificate, so anyone can reasonably expect the birth certificate will still get to see your real name before the unilateral act.

you'll need to go see a lawyer and they will advise you. The procedure is then written as follows: to whom it may concern, I (your name you are currently using) from 01.01.2008 to know be known as the name you chose. This is the correct way to do it, it stops any confusion, but you must request a legal review before changing your name or it could lead to problems later. Good Luck.

I agree - do it via the lawyer, not via a website, what you end up with may not suit your needs. A lawyer will tell you the ramifications of your own.

Simply search by the "Declaration" - that's how I did mine a few years ago. This way, you do not need a lawyer, you can do yourself in the County Court. It costs about £ 50 when I did - do not know what it costs now though.

You can change your name in two ways

Statutory instrument survey .... it must be in a format and perscribed available in a store fixed, such as blacksmiths and World Heritage Jarrolds

It must be signed by two witnesses .... they can be anyone, but it's always better to avoid using family

Or

A statutory declartion ..... this can be done by your local district court for the sum of £ 7.50. You'll need to take your birth certificate and another form of identity

I have never experienced problems during or after a change of name

It is not necessary to have your name legally changed. You can call yourself any name you want. The only thing to do is the most important thing is to inform the authorities and all other institutions. You must inform the Inland Revenue, the Ministry of National Insurance, your bank, your employer and so on. You just need to write a letter to these departments theat such and such a date, you will be called (insert name of your new) and ask that this be noted in their records.

Nossda is correct, under UK law, you are entitled to request the name you yourslef Choo.
