Records of the Western Canada Auto Sales auto sales in Saskatchewan and Alberta are boosting Canadian sales at a time when acquisitions in both the U.S. and Mexico are in decline.
In recent years, Alberta has reported record sales of automobiles. Saskatchewan, however, reported increased sales. According to the report of the country, the two provinces has led the Canadian auto market to reach 19 per cent increase compared to the average of 15 percent over the last ten years.
"Quick sale gains in Alberta, where employment growth exceeds 4.5 per cent, more than double the national average, and Saskatchewan are markup overall volumes in Canada," said Carlos Gomes, economist and automotive expert at the Bank of Nova Scotia. "It is led by the West."
In Alberta, auto sales have increased since 2004. This reflects the general boom that has been proved further by posting the largest increase in sales from one province to 16.2 percent the previous year. At the same time, high employment and rising incomes have increased and flourished for the benefit of expensive items like cars.
"In Alberta, we are just in an environment that is unique - the strength of the economy," said Bill Watkins, president of the Automobile Dealers Association of Alberta.
Gomes said that Alberta's share in the domestic market of the car rose about ten per cent in 1998-99 and an average of about 12 per cent over the past decade to about 16.6 percent.
Last year, Alberta car and truck sales rose about 11 percent to a record 236,000 vehicles. This figure is likely to gain ground this year. Although sales of Wild Rose Country during the first five months of the year, from January to May, increased nearly six percent annually. The volumes should increase in the second half of the year, increasing annual sales to a record 268,000 vehicles, up about 14 percent from the previous year.
Auto sales, including luxury vehicles, have been strong for some time in Alberta. Earlier this month, Statistics Canada reported that new car dealers saw their incomes rise in May only 12 percent, and from May 2006, from 21.4 percent to $ 1.4 billion. Parts, service and financing are also all strong. Brake pads Canada and of other automotive parts are also benefited from the boom.
Vehicle sales are also up nationally. During the first six months of 2007, Canadian sales increased six percent, compared with declines of 2.5 percent in Mexico and two percent in the United States, reported Driving.ca.
Gomes noted that Canadian sales got a boost somewhat controversial federal budget measures that subsidize the purchase of certain fuel-efficient vehicles. "We believe that sales of vehicles benefiting from discount Ottawa jumped nearly 90 percent so far this year alone lifting volumes of the industry," he added.
Some automakers have criticized the program, which supports small cars to the exclusion of all others. Now that the industry has seen the boom, manufacturers are singing a new tune.
The sales force in Canada at a time when overall sales are also rising, led by China. For the first half of the year worldwide sales are estimated to have increased three percent to an annualized level of more than 53 million vehicles, purchases in China up 27 percent for the first five million dollars . And industry experts predict that the market will grow even more in coming years.
